Alberta Métis Federation

The Alberta Métis Federation (AMF) is a grassroots and community lead Métis collective that fights for the rights of historic Métis communities in Alberta. The formation of the AMF in early 2020 arose from the mounting concerns within several communities. These concerns encompassed issues related to governance structures, imbalanced funding allocations, and the absence of equitable resource sharing at both provincial and federal levels. This strategic decision underscores our unwavering dedication to self-governance and self-determination.

Our Board of Directors is composed of the elected Presidents from each Métis community that has become a part of the Alberta Métis Federation. This structure ensures equal representation for all AMF communities. Prominent figures within the AMF include:

  • Ron Quintal, President, Fort McKay Métis Nation
  • Jack Quintal, President, Owl River Métis Community
  • Ron Donald, President, Athabasca Landing Métis Community
  • Stella Lavallee, President, Willow Lake Métis Nation
  • Raoul Montgrand, President, Chard Métis Community
  • Darcy Donald, President, Edmonton Métis Community
  • Melina Power, President, Lakeland Métis Community

The core objectives of the AMF encompass advocacy, cultivating mutually beneficial relationships that serve the interests of Métis communities, and supporting the assertion of Métis communities' inherent right to self-government.
